ARES / RACES

New Bern Amateur Radio Club is affiliated with ARES/RACES.

Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) members provide backup communications during natural or man caused emergencies/disasters. You do not have to join the New Bern Amateur Radio Club to be an ARES member or volunteer services. You will be asked to fill out a form indicating what type of communication equipment you have and if you can be deployed to a shelter to provide communication. ARES members work with other local county emergency officials, Red Cross and other government or civilian activities to provide emergency communication.

SKYWARN members receive training from the National Weather Service, receive a certificate and weather spotter identification number, and use their Amateur radios to report severe weather directly to the Weather Service Station located at Newport, NC.
